Isopuisto Landscape Park is not just the largest in Kotka (it stretches over an area of more than eight hectares), but also one of the oldest . At the end of the 18th century, the foundations of the future Orthodox Church were laid . Nicholas the Wonderworker, then the first trees were planted, the park was gradually formed around the Russian church . In those years it was called Konstantininpuisto, or Konstantinovsky Park, in honor of the Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich . By the way, the St. Nicholas Church is also considered itself m old building in the city, it is perfectly preserved to our time and even continues to operate . Near the temple there is a sculpture of an elderly woman on a bench, which, according to legends, saved the shrine from imminent destruction . Now the monument to Maria Purpur became one of the sights of the park .
From the second half of the 19th century, parkland was used for the needs of the sawmill industry . Trees and bushes ruthlessly cut down, and in the park were placed a timber warehouse and partially built up. Restoration of neglected areas began in 1888, but it took place quite spontaneously, the territory was landscaped, focusing mainly on the already laid paths and alleys. Two years later the park came back to life, and in 1914 it acquired its modern name - Isopuisto.
The next stage of restoration work took place in the 1960s, then a detailed project was already developed, in full accordance with which, and passed work. In the park we had a stream, arranged a children's playground, pitched a field for ball games and mini-golf. And, finally, in the 1980s, the final stage of the works was completed, as a result of which Isopuisto acquired its modern look.
