For more than a hundred years, people in Helsinki have been enjoying walks and appointments in the Winter Garden. The entrance here is free - so bequeathed to Major-General Jakob Lindfors, who created this indoor greenhouse in the 19th century. He believed that citizens should freely visit the avenues and admire the plants.
Here are collected more than 200 species of exotic plants, which are located in thematic halls - for example, halls of cacti and palm trees. In the pool, decorative carps swim, and the parched parrots discuss garden visitors.
It's especially cool to get here in winter, when cold alleys are suddenly replaced by alleys of strange plants. It feels like being transferred to some tropical country.
The garden is open every day, except Monday, until 15:00.
Address: Hammarskjöldintie, 1A.
