Add a review about the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock
Crowds wishing to touch the Wailing Wall are constantly crossing with pilgrims hurrying to the main Muslim shrines of Jerusalem . This is the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock . First, though looks more modest, has a third in the Muslim world after the temples of Mecca and Medina . It is believed that it was on this site that the prophet Mohammed met three prophets and said a prayer, then ascended to heaven . The Dome of the Rock has (as reflected in the name ) a huge gilded dome, yavl which is the architectural dominant of Jerusalem . Inside the mosque there is a small rocky platform with which, as the legend says, the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven .
Moslem shrines of Jerusalem are very close to the Jewish ones, and throughout the history of the coexistence of religions this has provoked conflicts. After 1967, the city was formally divided into two parts: Jewish and Arab. There is no clear boundary between them, and walking along the Old City, you can cross it several times unnoticed.
