Haifa Zoo, named after Louis Ariel Goldschmit, is a great place for a family visit. . Originally it was established in 1949 . Pinchas Cohen as a small farm of pets, a place for biology lessons located next to the school . And today the Haifa Zoo is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums . After renovation in 2002 . the zoo has become home to more than 350 animals and plants of about a hundred different species . It takes about 9 acres territory in a beautiful natural park ovednik on Mount Carmel, where you can see excellent views of the sea .
In the zoo you can see lemurs, meerkats, capuchin monkeys, lions and leopards, wild boars and Syrian brown bears . Special pride of the zoo - white Bengal tigers . There is also a serpentarium with cobra, anaconda, boa and a variety of lizards . The feathered world is represented by a wide variety of birds, from owls to free-walking peacocks . Many of the animal zoo are specifically related to the fauna of Israel: this, for example , Israeli (or Arabic) in owls, jackals, camels, chanterelles, Palestinian vipers, black cobra, vultures and a rare Persian deer, which is scarcely visible except for the natural habitat in the Upper Galilee, in the small Nakhal-Kziv reserve .
Visitors can see animals in well-adapted "dwellings". A lemur can open for a few hours a day, so that people can communicate with animals in the vicinity - this is especially attractive for children. A similar practice is established for aviary with birds of prey. Also worth seeing is the cave of bats. And in addition, for children in the zoo there is a special section with tamed animals. Here they can touch and take pictures with spotted deer (exactly the same as Bambi), rabbits and hamsters, reptiles and snakes.
Botanical Garden
In the center of the zoo there is a botanical garden . Here are planted dozens of species of bushes and trees that represent the unique flora of Israel in general and the region Carmel in particular . Also at the zoo is the Museum of prehistoric times; it is located at the very gates . This is a special exhibition of the history of civilization in which archeological finds are presented, mainly from Mount Carmel . Here you can see artifacts found during underwater studies of sunken villages . In a special exposition you can find out how you lived ancient people who inhabited this territory thousands of years ago, homo Carmelitis .
