President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev announced last week the creation of a new national air carrier
As the head of the former Soviet republic noted, Air Kazakhstan will be focused primarily on domestic transportation, however, in case of successful commercial launch, international routes are not excluded. Directorate of the future carrier has already signed a contract with the aircraft designer Bombardier for the supply of ten short-haul airliners. According to preliminary plans, the inaugural flight of Air Kazakhstan will take place at the beginning of 2015.
Recall that since 2002 another airline, Air Astana, has successfully operated in Kazakhstan. Currently, it has an air fleet of 25 aircraft and has valid code-sharing agreements with Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Etihad Airways, KLM and Russia. The creation of Air Kazakhstan will not only increase competition in the local air transportation market but also contribute to the reduction of air ticket prices.
