One of the very first in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Alma-Ata Zoo was established in 1937 in the foothills of Kok-tob. In its huge area, animals and birds live in cages, cages and special water bodies. The zoo is divided into 7 segments: predatory mammals, ungulates, primates, birds of prey, exotic birds, exotarium, aquarium. According to the calculations of the middle of the 2000s, about 500 species of animals live in the zoo of Almaty, many of which are listed in the Red Books of the IUCN, the CIS and Kazakhstan.
Thanks to the excellent work and dedication of the staff, the Alma-Ata Zoo is of great importance for the country and owns magnificent collections of animals. Its population of birds of prey is considered one of the richest in the world: many years ago, predatory birds from the Alma-Ata Zoo were transferred to many world zoos. The city authorities are developing a plan for reconstruction and modernization, so in the near future residents and guests of Almaty will have a chance to see the updated zoo.
First of all, there are many kinds of mammals in the Alma-Ata Zoo: elephants and giraffes, zebras and different species of antelope, deer and goats, bears and monkeys. The zoo is very proud of its huge population of carnivorous predators, including lions, Persian and Far Eastern leopards, black panthers, jaguars, cougars, servals, lynxes.
In the terrarium of the Alma-Ata Zoo, there are more than a dozen species of turtles, many lizards and snakes, among them pythons, water dragons, chameleons, rattlesnakes, Egyptian cobra and many others. In the spacious enclosures and reservoirs of the zoo live a variety of birds.
The most favorite place for visitors to the zoo is the pavilion "Sea Aquarium", inhabited by the inhabitants of the reservoirs of our planet. Here you can see very rare species of fish, shellfish and molluscs.
The purpose of creating a zoo in the city of Alma-Ata was both research work and the desire to make the most interesting place for leisure activities for small and adults, their education, communication with wildlife. And to this day Alma-Ata Zoo enjoys great popularity among citizens and visitors of the city: here everyone gets a wonderful chance to plunge into an atmosphere of silence, diluted only by the sounds of nature, recharge with positive energy next to the animals and stay away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
