The Wine Trail is perhaps the most delicious tourist attraction in Luxembourg, stretching as far as 42 km along the Moselle River . For many fans of German wines the Moselle has long been a river, not a fertile land, and tart grapes, from which a luxurious riesling is obtained . So, the Luxembourg half of this tortuous stream of purest water will be a real discovery for them - the local valleys are no less than German-friendly, the grapes are maturing as sedately and with taste ohm, and the drink of the wine vine is extremely fragrant and saturated .
To begin with, a bit of geography: The Moselle is a border river between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Germany. Wine growing here has been practiced for more than one hundred years, so the special marked Wine path, which leads through the towns and villages of this valley, has been asking for a long time. Having studied it along and across, it is possible, by the way, not only to get acquainted with the most interesting sights of the country, but also to visit a lot of distilleries and wine cellars, becoming truly a connoisseur of local wines.
And the Wine path begins in a historical place in the village of Schengen, on behalf of which the name of the Schengen agreement came to simplify the whole world visit to the Old World.
So, starting in Schengen (canton Remich) and then repeating the Moselle current, the Wine path passes through the best vineyards of Luxembourg up to the town of Wasserbillych (Canton Grevenmacher). Interesting fact: the fertile valleys of this river give birth to the best grapes on the Luxembourg side, due to the fact that they are on the southern slope, and, therefore, get more sun. You can verify this fact personally by visiting one of the wine cellars or bars of Vintrange, Enen, Vormeldrange, Aan or Schwebzingen
What's worth trying: pay attention to young white wines from varieties of rivaner, pin gri and pinot blanc, riesling. Spend time also with local sparkling drinks from wine called Le Cremant
So that you do not feel dizzy from luxurious Mosel at all, you should pay some time to local places of interest and holidays. Throughout the Wine Trail, there are a lot of monuments that Luxembourg inherited from the Celts and Romans, as well as picturesque medieval ruins and Renaissance palaces. Slightly recovering, you can throw yourself into the whirlpool of local wines, especially if you are in the country during folk festivals and harvest festivals (for example, in September).
The most convenient way to plan a visit to the Wine Trail is a couple of days - with an obligatory overnight stay in a charming hostel or a respectable castle hotel on the road . And, of course, to find a sober driver . It's not bad at all by public transport, but you have to constantly guess the schedule that will consume a considerable amount of time from enjoying the trail . Moreover, you can rent a bicycle, but here you should also be on your guard: the sparkling Moselle strikes your head very well, so driving even a two-wheeled horse can be unsafe .
Finally, the ideal option for those who have little time - Half day / day excursion. You will not see much, only the most-most, but surely they will deliver to the place of lodging and hand over to the porter, who carefully escorts you to the room after a tiring excursion day.
