The Palace of the Grand Dukes in Luxembourg did not immediately fulfill the honorable mission of the residence of local monarchs. Until that time, and to be more precise, until 1890, the building managed to serve both the town hall, the residence of the French administration, and even the residence of the Dutch governors.
But the history of the palace's appearance is even more noteworthy. Elegant structure in the style of the late Renaissance was born thanks to the heavenly sign. In all seriousness: in 1554 lightning struck the church of the Franciscans, which for some reason were used for that reason as a powder storehouse. Most of the Upper City of Luxembourg burned out, so the construction of a single temple did not go away: the new Town Hall (1572) - the future Palace of the Grand Dukes had to be erected.
His fate was nothing particularly noteworthy: changing the hosts for the hosts, the palace every time re-decorated and updated the furnishing, following the latest fashion trends of those years. Until the Second World War came, and the daring Germans did not make a tavern and a concert hall from the residence. In short, the building was adapted to the cultural needs of German officers. Needless to say, many furnishings and paintings were later to be seen on the German antiques market?
The family of the Grand Dukes the palace was given in 1945, as soon as the Grand Duchess of Charlotte returned from exile. Of course, the building was brought to the proper view. Since then, the palace serves as a residence for the royal family, but the family does not live there. This is the "study room" of the Grand Duke and the Duchess.
It is intended for official functions: on the ground floor there are state rooms and offices used for meetings and audiences. In the Ballroom, receptions and banquets are held in honor of distinguished guests. And from the Yellow Room of the Palace every Christmas Eve, the Grand Duke congratulates the citizens of his country on the upcoming Christmas.
