Male - one of the smallest capitals of the world - its area is only two square. km. Nevertheless, in this city, which is almost entirely occupied by the eponymous island, there is a third of the population of all islands - about 90 thousand people.
A tourist who came here on an excursion will amaze the contrast of Male compared to other islands. After a tropical paradise of low-eared islands, it impresses with its skyscrapers and highways - there are not even natural beaches here. However, recently in the south-west of the island was created an artificial recreation area, which often come to people living and working in Malé - especially in the evenings, when it gets colder. However, tourists do not come here to lie on the beaches.
The main street of the city is the embankment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu. Here are the government buildings, banks and offices. In the middle is the Jumhooree Maidhaan square, to the right of which there is the berth No. 1 (presidential) and No. 9-10 (ferries to the airport).

How to get here
Male International Airport is located on a separate island - Hulhule, which is only 2 km from the capital's island. The airport accepts flights from Moscow, Colombo, Qatar, Dubai, Trivandrum, Vienna, Kuala Lumpur and other cities. The terminals have all the services necessary for a tourist: ATM, bank, pharmacy, Internet, a luggage room (~ 3 USD per day). The berth, from which ferries depart for Malé, is to the right of the exit from the airport. Ferries leave every 10-15 minutes during the day (1 USD), and every half hour in the evening (2 USD).
Beaches Male
In Male also has its own beach, which, of course, does not go to any comparison with the islands-resorts. However, fans of surfing here quite like it. Artificial Beach is on the east of the island, 10 minutes walk from the berths No. 9-10.

Shopping and shops Male
Most souvenir shops are located at the northern end of one of the main thoroughfares of Male - Chaandani Magu. Earlier this place was called the "Singapore Bazaar", as many of the goods sold there were imported from Singapore.
The most famous souvenirs from the Maldives island are, undoubtedly, thudu kuna - Maldivian mats woven from local natural palm fiber. Another souvenir is miniature wooden dhonis - traditional fishing boats that can be seen in the Maldives almost everywhere.
By the way, when choosing a souvenir, it is necessary to remember that the export from the country of products made of tortoise shell, black corals, shells of pearl oysters and red corals is prohibited. And customs, I must say, is watching.
From the Maldives, it is worth bringing home fish and seafood - and to give to friends, and to remember for yourself a wonderful holiday in a tropical paradise. In Malé for this you can visit the fish market and all kinds of supermarkets. There you can buy canned fish (the most popular is canned tuna, which is caught traditionally), dried and dried fish - in general, the choice is the widest.
Entertainment, sightseeing and sightseeing Male
The capital is not rich in sights, but it is worth a visit: the National Museum in Sultans Park, the shady park Jumuri-Maidan, the Palace of Muliage (1913). The most revered shrines of the country are the chapel Medu Ziyarat, the tomb of the national hero of the country Mohammed Takurufanu, the Islamic Center with the Great Friday Mosque, the Old Friday Mosque with a unique minaret and tombs of national heroes and members of the royal family.
