As in many Arab cities, kasba became the oldest part of Agadir . Everywhere kasba is a place on the hill where the city fortress was built; a kind of Old city . Agadir in this sense is not an exception . His kasba, located in the northern part of the present city, was built in 1540 . by sultan Mohammed ek-Sheikh . Then, in 1752 . , it was rebuilt and rearmed by Sultan Mulay Abdullah al-Ghalib . Then it was a rather impressive fortification with winding streets and powerful bastions, and about 300 people lived on the territory of the kasbah . Above the entrance to the fortress there is still an original inscription on Arabic and Dutch: "Fear God and Honor the King" . These Layers were painted in 1746 ., when there was a mission of Dutch traders in the city . Kasbah is visible from almost any part of the city . And the view from here to Agadir and its ports is simply wonderful .
In 1960, an earthquake that destroyed Agadir almost entirely destroyed much of the old fortress. From it remained a restored long and high wall surrounding the cusp along the perimeter, and the main gate. The thick serrated wall was mostly plastered, but in some areas it is still possible to see the original masonry.
Most of the locals go up to the kasbah with their family at the weekend to feel a cool breeze on the face from the sea. Against the backdrop of kasbah, you can take pictures with a monkey or a camel (on the latter you can and ride), which are specially for this purpose are kept by local people who want to earn extra money. With a camera it makes sense to come in the evening to shoot at sunset.
On the territory under the kasbah there was also an ancient city Medina. The earthquake also destroyed her, so Agadir, which is not very typical of the Arab city, was left without Medina. In 1992, the Italian artist Coco Polizzi tried to recreate the traditional Berber construction at 4, 5 km from the city center, having built Medina in the area of Ben Sergao. Today, Medina Polizzi is something like an open-air museum: there are apartments, shops and studios of artisans and artists, as well as a small hotel and an exotic garden.
