Poles and Jews always lived next door. It happened historically that these two people were bound by common destiny. An example of this is Kazimierz - a Jewish city, which only in the 19th century became part of Krakow. Therefore, there are more synagogues here than Catholic churches.

Kazimierz can be called the spiritual center of Cracow Jews. Here are orthodox synagogues, old cemeteries, a gymnasium, a center of Jewish culture.

In this suburb, the famous Steven Spielberg film "Schindler's List" - about the Holocaust during the Second World War took place.

Kazimierz erected two amazing buildings - this the Church of St. Catharine and the Church of the Body of the Lord. In the first, built on all canons of Gothic architecture, stands the organ, which is considered the best in all of Krakow. And in the second - huge and very beautiful - there is a well-known painting "The Adoration of the Magi" by Tomasso Dolabella, the court artist of King Sigmund III

Kazimierz is different, not so pretentious and touristy. He is real. Here you can eat delicious and inexpensive, here are great nightclubs with good music, here the same tourists become quiet and look like the local ones. We were here in cloudy weather, there was a thunderstorm. Maybe it added gray colors to this quarter. Some buildings, like, ... Read the whole review

Acquaintance with the Jewish culture of Krakow July 11, 2014

As there is Josef in Prague, so there is Kazimierz in Krakow. These are such historical metropolitan areas where Jews lived. Krakowski is next to Wawel, only slightly to the south. You can get here by many bus routes to Stradom stop. The area is surrounded on both sides by the Vistula River and green parks, so walks along the embankment here are especially romantic. On the territory of a large number of synagogues, the most notable of which - the Old, built in the XV century. Now it houses the historical ... Read the full review
