The history of the city of Chekhov is inextricably linked with the work of the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich, who spent many years in the nearby Melikhovo estate, writing the best of his works. As a rule, travelers come here for one or two days, because despite the picturesque surroundings, there is not much entertainment in the town itself. Nevertheless, it is convenient to use Chekhov as a transit point for trips to the nearest sights: to the Melikhovo estate or to Talezh.

A bit of history
Despite the fact that Chekhov was founded only recently, in 1954, this place is famous for its rich history. The city itself was founded on the site of the village of Lopasnya, near which, in the estate of Melikhovo, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov lived for seven years. This time is not in vain called the most fruitful in the writer's work: it was here that he wrote his famous plays "Uncle Vanya" and "The Seagull". The latter, by the way, today flaunts on a blue background on the city's coat of arms.
In addition, the history of the city is inextricably linked with another "writer's" name: in the estate there is a manor Lopasnya-Zachatievskoe. Here lived close relatives and descendants of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, many of which are now buried in the family crypt. It turns out that after the death of the poet Natalia Goncharova married Peter Lansky, whose sisters owned a manor in Lopasna. The widow of Alexander Sergeevich together with the children often visited these places
