The history of the city of Chekhov is inextricably linked with the work of the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich, who spent many years in the nearby Melikhovo estate, writing the best of his works. As a rule, travelers come here for one or two days, because despite the picturesque surroundings, there is not much entertainment in the town itself. Nevertheless, it is convenient to use Chekhov as a transit point for trips to the nearest sights: to the Melikhovo estate or to Talezh.

City Day is celebrated on the last weekend of August with mass festivities and fireworks

Talezh is on the same road, another 7-10 kilometers to the east, in the opposite direction from Chekhov

A bit of history

Despite the fact that Chekhov was founded only recently, in 1954, this place is famous for its rich history. The city itself was founded on the site of the village of Lopasnya, near which, in the estate of Melikhovo, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov lived for seven years. This time is not in vain called the most fruitful in the writer's work: it was here that he wrote his famous plays "Uncle Vanya" and "The Seagull". The latter, by the way, today flaunts on a blue background on the city's coat of arms.

In addition, the history of the city is inextricably linked with another "writer's" name: in the estate there is a manor Lopasnya-Zachatievskoe. Here lived close relatives and descendants of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, many of which are now buried in the family crypt. It turns out that after the death of the poet Natalia Goncharova married Peter Lansky, whose sisters owned a manor in Lopasna. The widow of Alexander Sergeevich together with the children often visited these places

Chekhov's entertainment, excursions and attractions

@ In the city itself the main attraction is the estate of Pushkin-Lansky Lopasnya-Zachatyevskoye, in which lived noble families of nobility, relatives of the great Russian poet. Here the children and grandchildren of Alexander Sergeevich stayed, his widow Natalia Nikolayevna constantly lived with her new husband. Today in this cozy mansion of the beginning of the 18th century there is a museum where you can enjoy the interiors designed according to the "latest fashion" of Pushkin's time

Chekhov Manor

The manor is in the west of the city, on the right bank of the Lopasnya river. Get there just from the station on the street. Chekhov, then go through the street. Moscow-Soviet, two minutes and you are in place. It's very difficult to get lost, but it's easy to ask the local people for directions. Entrance ticket is 100 rubles, opening hours: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday. The family necropolis of Pushkin is located next to the elegant Anno-Zachatievskaya church

In the center of Chekhov there is a restored farmstead Sadki, which from the middle of the 19th century belonged to a friend of Anton Pavlovich, Pyotr Mikhailovich Ryumin. At the manor is the church of St. John the Baptist, surrounded by an ancient linden park.

Finally, you should take the time to travel to the village of Talezh (about 20 km to the southeast). Here is the holy source of the Monk David, to which thousands of pilgrims from all over Russia flock.

Museums

Despite the small size, Chekhov sheltered at once three worthy visits to the museum . The most popular - Museum of letters A . P . Chekhov - is in the building of the former postal and telegraph office (1896, opened with the assistance of the writer) . After many years at the estate in Melikhov, Anton Pavlovich wrote more than two thousand letters . Inside you can enjoy the old interiors, outside - in the yard - bronze monument of Chekhov r The work of the sculptor M . Anikushina . Opening hours: from 10:00 to 17:00, except Monday . Two other museums are the Museum of Peasant Life and Chekhov Museum of Memory 1941-1945 dedicated to the Great Patriotic War .

Melikhovo

Museum-Reserve A . P . Chekhov or simply Melikhovo Estate tells how the Russian writer and his family lived for more than six years (1892-1899), where he rested, whom he invited to visit . The exposition of the museum is a few rooms and utility rooms, which by careful hands of the staff and the head of the reserve have been preserved in the same way as they were seen by Anton Pavlovich . The museum regularly hosts concerts and festivals, theater and music festivals are organized . Working hours: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday . Besides, it costs to inspect a wooden church located near the farmstead .

The best time to visit the manor is May, when the Melikhovskaya Spring is held (tickets about 150 rubles) - a week-long theater festival, to which the troupes from all over the world are flocking, and the village of Melikhovo becomes a stage open-air.

My homestead not great, but the neighborhood it great.
