There is now no village, no some monasteries (only Blagoveshchensky remained), but there were lakes, channels - that historical landscape, which turned out to be so attractive that in 1960s this place was chosen to create an open-air museum. Here, from the territory of the whole region, they brought in buildings that were in poor condition. Behind the fence among the trees are the tents and domes of churches and bell-chalks.

Entertainment and exposition in Vitoslavlitsy

On the threshold of the hut you will be met by the hostess in a suit typical for the Novgorod village of the last century, smiling and talking. It will show the yard and garden, hayloft and stall for cattle, explain the purpose of all objects. On the gallery near the master's house you will be offered souvenirs from birch bark and wood, will show how to work with these materials.

Twice a year, at Christmas and Trinity, in Vitoslavlitsy holidays are arranged. In winter, they roll from ice slides and sleighs, songs are played, ritual performances are played out. In summer, the festival gathers folk groups from all over the region. On the playgrounds, children and adults learn "stilts", "giant steps", play "ryuhi" and "grandmas", pull the rope. Nearby - fair: weaving of birch bark, carving and painting on wood, hand weaving, clay toy-whistle. Often the holiday ends with a concert of bell music.

Since the passage to the banks of Lake Ilmen, namely to the Pereyn Skete and St. Yuriev Monastery, still passes this complex of monuments "in the open air" with the unusual Old Slavonic name "Vitoslavlitsy", then visiting these places is better ... Read the whole review
