How to get to Yelabuga
Getting to Yelabuga is quite difficult. The nearest railway station is Naberezhnye Chelny (one train a day, en route 22 hours), from where minibuses and city buses run to Yelabuga

Devil's fortress is the only remnants of the ancient city that have survived since the time of the ancient Volga Bulgaria. There are preserved ramparts and moats, but the main attraction of the site is the ruins of the Cathedral Mosque built in the 11th century. The mosque itself survived only at the basement level, but around it were five fortress towers. One of them survived completely - the tower of the Devil's fortress - the most beautiful and memorable place of Elabuga.

Ivan Shishkin, landscape painter, on the contrary, was born and spent all his childhood and youth in Yelabuga. The Shishkin Museum includes a house museum, an art gallery and a monument that are located in the most picturesque place of the district Yelabuga - on Naberezhnaya Street. One of the artist's largest collections is represented in the art gallery.
In addition, it is necessary to visit the "façade" of the present city: the Memory Square with a memorial in honor of those killed in the Great Patriotic War and the adjacent Naberezhnaya street. It has a beautiful view of the Kama floodplain and Chertovo fort with a tower on top.

The museum-estate is located in a memorial house, where the heroine of the Patriotic War of 1812 lived the last years of her life. The exposition tells about the life of N. Durova. The museum presents military suits of regiments in which N. Durova served, samples of weapons. Of particular interest is the correspondence of N. Durova with A. S. Pushkin, archival materials.
Memorial House Museum of I. I. Shishkin (Naberezhnaya St. 12, opening hours: 10: 00-18: 00, closed on Monday). This is the only museum in the country dedicated to the famous landscape painter. Visitors get into the atmosphere of the Russian merchant life of the 19th century, in which Shishkin's childhood and adolescence passed.
