3 Serbia - Russia monument

In the Kalemegdan fortress in the Serbian capital, a monument was opened in honor of Russian and Serbian soldiers killed in the defense of Belgrade a hundred years ago in the First World War.

The monument is a granite cross with the image of St. George the Victorious with the height of slightly less than 3 m, which was made in St. Petersburg, at the "Sculpture".

The monument was handed over to Serbia in the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. Serbian Prime Minister Alexander Vučić said that very few Serbs know about the participation of Russian sailors in the defense of the capital. "If it were not for the intercession of Nicholas II, then, probably, Serbia itself as a state would not have been," the politician believes.
