A little history
Valladolid turned into a town from the village and began to thrive in the 11th century, and in 1469 Queen Isabella of Castile and King Ferdinand of Aragon married here and elected the city as their residence. Later, in 1561, the capital was moved to Madrid. It was during this period in Valladolid that one of the most famous Spaniards in the world, the great writer Cervantes, lived here, his novel "Don Quixote" was published for the first time.
Climate
There is a city at the confluence of the rivers Pisuerga and Esgueva, in a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, o which the Spaniards say: "six months of winter and six months of hell." From all sides, this city is surrounded by mountains that protect it from winds and rains, but often provoke extreme weather events. Spring and autumn are usually rainy, dry summers, (on average, its temperature is about +25 ° C), and in winter it is quite cool, frosts and fogs are not unusual.

Modern Valladolid is one of the largest industrial centers in Spain. There are many different enterprises here: machine-building plants, chemical enterprises, aluminum smelting complex. The city is also famous for its numerous jewelry factories and wineries, which produce from the fruits of the surrounding vineyards famous Castillian wines world-wide.
Valladolid is not only a notable industrial center in Spain, but also a university one. It should be noted that the local university is one of the oldest in Europe: it was founded in 1346, and its first building was built in the late 15th century. In the 18th century the building received a new Baroque façade and still serves as one of the city's adornments. The current reality is that there are about 30,000 students in 13 faculties at the university

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Valladolid
On the background of industrial enterprises, fortunately, numerous historical and architectural sights of the city are not lost. The old part of the city here is carefully preserved in its original form, and it is here that a large number of iconic buildings, both secular and religious, are concentrated. It is in this area of the city that the unfinished Cathedral is located. Its construction began in the 16th century, then it was suspended, and work on the front part of the Cathedral was completed only in 1730.
Next to it is the 13th-century church of Santa Maria la Antigua, built in Romanesque style. Its slender bell tower attracts attention with its grace and unusual architecture. Of great interest are also the churches of St. Benedict, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Michael and St. Anna Monastery, which owns the famous paintings of the great Spanish artist Francisco Goya.

The heart of the old city is the Plaza Mayor. Its architectural ensemble was formed in the 16th century and still pleases its eyes with its completeness. One of the most significant on the square is the building of the city municipality, which, incidentally, is open for free inspection at certain hours.
The Palace of Los Piemintel also attracts tourists with its architecture and historical significance: here in 1527 the king was born Philip II. In the 19th century another very attractive architectural ensemble was formed in the city: the street of Acera de Recoletos, one of the main streets of Valladolid. It is a complete complex of buildings with generously but harmoniously decorated facades
