Each film from the Star Wars epic, except for The Empire Strikes Back, uses the landscape of the cave and the dusty cities of Tunisia as scenery of the planet Tatooine, on which Luke Skywalker grew up. In particular, until the age of 19 Luke lived in the house of Lars, which was a real building, which is recently on the verge of destruction.
To save him, neither Luke Skywalker nor George Lucas came, but there was Mark Dermool, an avid admirer of the "Star Wars" from Belgium, who was in charge of tours to Tatooine since 2001. In 2010, when he arrived in Tunisia, he found that Lars' house was in very poor condition, and Dermul decided to launch the project "Let's Save the House of Lars". He collaborated with the tourist center of Tunisia and the government of the country to obtain proper permission to preserve and restore such an important film object.
The project helped to collect 10 thousand dollars for 10 months. In May 2012 Dermul went to Tunisia with the other volunteers, where they reconstructed the landmark on the collected funds.
