This minaret was built by the Seljuk sultan Ala-ad-din Kay-Kubad in the 13th century. The structure of a height of 38 meters appeared for two reasons. First, from here the muezzin called the faithful to pray. Secondly, the minaret was a symbol of the victories of the Sultan, who conquered the coastal lands.
The minaret has an unusual, folded shape that resembles the skin of a shar pei. From a distance it seems like the building is cut into half-cylinders. Yivli consists of eight parts, each of which is decorated with a brick-tiled mosaic. Near the minaret there is a mosque.
The minaret can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Inside it - 90 steps of a spiral staircase that leads to the balcony. They are lit through the slots in the wall. Scientists believe that before there were 99 steps - according to the number of "most beautiful names" of Allah, which the muezzin must repeat while climbing upward. True, where nine steps have disappeared, nobody knows. And how the muezzins are related, too.
