Bogota's districts
The city is divided into four areas:
- South - the poorest part of Bogota
- Center (El Centro) - historical area of the city with many attractions and business district
- the El Occidente area, in which the upper layers of the Bogotian society live, there are many parks and sports facilities here
- and the North is the most modern part of the city with shopping centers, boutiques, cafes and night clubs
In addition to this division, Bogota officially includes 20 districts:
the most touristy of La Candelaria with colonial buildings, churches and picturesque streets;
Chapinero, which is located in the north of La Candelaria, is a more modern part of the city with office buildings, hundreds of shops and restaurants;
Teusaquillo will appeal to sports lovers, it is here that the famous Bogota stadium, the Olympic water complex, Simon Bolivar Park - the venue for all concerts in the open air, and many museums and a botanical garden will please the "second half" of amateur athletes;
the bohemian district of Macarena with art galleries and the best restaurants of the capital;
Parque de la 93, which is visited only for the sake of its trendy cafes and "otvyaznyh" nightclubs;
San Victorino, located in the heart of the city, opposite the TransMilenio's station. Here are inexpensive shops selling everything in a row;
Usaquén is the northernmost area, the place of all major sights and traditional architecture of the capital.
Hotels in Bogota
Budget hotels in Bogota can be found in the area of La Candelaria, where most of the youth hostels of the capital live, where friendly and talkative tourists from all over the world settle. The historical center of the city and the main museums, as well as some decent nightclubs are within walking distance. However, despite the fact that this area is considered to be relatively safe, one should not walk one evening and take a lot of cash with them.
Have a safe area - Zona T or Parque de la 93, however hotels are not an example more expensive. But in these areas, there will never be a problem with a taxi at 6 am: almost in every building there is a nightclub, whose guests just like to disperse only in the morning.
Hotels "serednyachki" can be found near universities (for example, Chapinero Neighborhood) or in the historic center of the city.
