Add a review about the national park of Alexander Humboldt

Alexander Humboldt covers an area of more than 700 square kilometers and is located in the north-east of Cuba in the territory of two Cuban provinces - Holguin and Guantánamo. His name he received in honor of the German scientist Alexander von Humboldt, who first visited the island of Svoboda in 1800

Unfortunately, the history of this territory has been studied rather poorly. Humboldt himself wrote to the contemporaries only that he wrote that runaway slaves were hiding in the region.

Tourism began to develop here only at the end of the 20th century, when the territory was integrated into the nature protection zone.

The terrain is interesting for various forms of relief , the range of heights (the difference is from 220 to 1175 m) and the richness of the animal and plant world. The park area was recognized as unique not only within Cuba, but also among all the tropical islands of our planet. Thanks to this, the National Park was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.

The most outstanding representatives of the local fauna can be identified: the world's smallest bat (weight 2-3 grams), the smallest frog in the northern hemisphere (the size is less than 11 mm), the smallest bird in the world (about 63 mm), the smallest scorpion in the world (10 mm) and the largest insectivorous mammal (582 mm).

Tourism began to develop here only in the late 20th century, when the territory was merged into an environmental zone. Visiting the park is possible as part of organized excursions.
