Trinidad Entertainment, Trips and Attractions

In Trinidad, there are several first-class houses of music, called Casa de la Musica and located on Plaza Mayor, where every night the largest dance floors open. In addition, the Plaza Mayor is the center of the historic city, a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. On the square you can see the buildings built in the 18-19th centuries, at a time when the slave trade and sugar production brought fabulous profits and contributed to the development of the city.

The colonial houses of Trinidad are characterized by typical tiled roofs, and the walls are supported by wooden beams. Above the square stands the Church of the Holy Trinity Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad, the construction of which was completed in 1892. The church houses a wooden statue of Jesus Christ of the 18th century. El Señor de la Vera Cruz. Here, not far away, is the "house of conspirators" La Casa de los Consipiradores, where the fighters gathered against the colonial dependence of Cuba from Spain, and a small area of Plazuela de Segarte with houses of the 18th century, the most impressive of which is Casa de la Trova, which is a concert Hall.

To the left of the church of the Holy Trinity is the Palacio Brunet, built in 1812 by José Mariano Borrell y Padrón. The palace now houses the Romantic Museum (Museo Romántico) with exhibits of objects belonging to the Borrell family. The palace has a central courtyard, an original marble floor, frescoes and ornaments in neoclassical style, and in the kitchen - clay tiles painted by hand.

The colonial houses of Trinidad are characterized by typical tiled roofs, and the walls are supported by wooden beams.

At the opposite end of the palace, on Calle Hernández Echerri Street, is the church and monastery of St. Francis Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, now the museum of the fight against bandits Museo de la Lucha contra Bandidos. The gangsters in question were counter-revolutionaries who rushed into the nearby Sierra del Escambray mountains after the Cuban Revolution and fought against the government of Fidel Castro. The church was founded in 1813 by Franciscan monks, in 1848 became a parish church, and in 1895 was transformed into a garrison for the Spanish troops.

On the east side of Plaza Mayor is the archaeological museum Museo de Arqueología Guamuhaya with a collection dedicated to the Indian tribes that lived here before Columbus, as well as exhibits telling about the conquest of Cuba by the Spaniards. On the opposite side of the square is the Museum of Colonial Architecture of Museo de Arquitectura Colonial with a collection of locks, doors, lattices and other architectural elements of houses typical of Trinidad of the past centuries. An interesting exhibit is the 1912 shower with a multitude of hot and cold water pipes.

In the lower part of the square is the house of the Mayor Casa de Aldemán Ortiz, built in 1809, which is a yellow two-story mansion with blue doors and windows and a wooden balcony with a breathtaking view of the square. The house was built for slaver Oritsa de Sunigi, who later became mayor of the city. Now there is an art gallery in the house.
