The European Commission has published a report on the cleanliness of places for swimming in all countries of Europe. It deals primarily with the quality of water and the ecological condition of coastal areas. According to the report, the cleanest places for bathing are located in Luxembourg and in Cyprus - almost 100% of the reservoirs of both states meet the highest environmental requirements. Of course, in the case of Luxembourg, we are talking about fresh water bodies, since the state has no access to the sea. The top ten countries are as follows:
1. Cyprus (100% of clean water bodies)
2. Luxembourg (100%)
3. Malta (97%)
4. Croatia (95%)
5. Greece (93%)
6. Germany (88%)
7. Portugal (87%)
8. Italy (85%)
9. Finland (83%)
10. Spain (83%)
The most dirty places for swimming are in Great Britain (only 6% of clean water bodies), in the Netherlands (7%) and in Belgium (12%).
The overall trend is positive: 78% of European water bodies meet all the requirements for cleanliness and environmental friendliness, which is 2% more than in 2011.
