The exhibition aquarium "Maretarium" is not just a visiting card and the pride of Kotka . It is also a manifestation of high ecological culture of the inhabitants of the city and all Finns, their love for nature and careful attitude to underwater riches countries . In this museum, in terms of the level of organization in no way inferior to the most famous aquariums in the world, more than 60 species of indigenous inhabitants of the Baltic Sea, as well as representatives of local lakes and rivers . were built. The aquarium construction took a bit more than one year, its doors modern maritime museum was opened in May 2002 . An impressive amount was spent on the construction itself, but a lot of money goes to maintain optimal conditions for the life of marine pets . What is the only supply of salted water from the sea by the Kotki, in which the fish swim . First, this water passes through the filters with quartz sand, which filters out large contaminations, and then through the settling ponds is pumped into two underground storages .
Life of the "Maretarium"
Excursion of the "Maretarium" is a spectacular leisure and very informative event. The museum consists of 22 thematic aquariums, the central place is occupied by a huge pool of cylindrical shape with a capacity of 500 thousand liters and a depth of about 7 m; here inhabitants of the underwater world of the Baltic Sea are exposed
For the full life of the inhabitants of the "Maretarium", a habitat is simulated as close as possible to the real one, and in artificial conditions a change of seasons is reproduced. As in wildlife, aquarium fish in turn pass spawning periods: in February, in burbot, in spring in pike, bream and perch, in summer at stickleback and pike-perch, in autumn in salmonids. In addition to the seasons, daily weather conditions are adjusted in the "Marearium" by changing the water temperature and lighting.
Interesting thematic exhibitions highlighting the results of the latest ichthyological research are held at the Maritime Theater. Also, various seminars, meetings and master classes on natural sciences for children are organized here

The working time depends on the season. September - May: Monday, Tuesday: 10:00 - 17:00, Wednesday: 12:00 - 19:00, Thursday - Sunday: 10:00 - 17:00. June - August: Monday - Sunday: 10:00 - 19:00 (June 19: 10:00 - 14:00).
Entrance: 13, 50 EUR, for children from 4 to 15 years: 7, 50 EUR , for students and pensioners: 11 EUR, family ticket: 32-53 EUR (depending on the number of children). For groups of 15 people: 6, 50-12, 50 EUR. For children under four years old, admission is free. The cost of a group excursion lasts about an hour: 65 EUR
