A bit of history
Loviisa was founded in 1745 on the Swedish-Russian border. Originally it was just a fortress fortress, but by 1752 a settlement had sprung up around it, named after the Queen of Sweden. By the 18th century, Loviisa was a pretty lively commercial town, but the fire of 1855 destroyed most of it.

30 km to the west of the center of Loviisa is Rönnas, where the Museum of the Loviisa Archipelago is located. The museum is open daily from June 1 to August 17.
