Beaches of Tampere
In Tampere there is a long coastline and a lot of reservoirs, the largest are the Nyasiyarvi and Pyhäjärvi. In addition, in the summer you can go to Viikinsaari for a picnic, cruise to Visavuori or to Hämeenlinna, take a boat ride to the harsh rocky shores of Nyasiyarvi.
In the summer, from the beginning of June to the middle of August, nice steam-trails run between Tampere and Visavuori. Working hours: Wed-Sat, departure from Tampere from Laucontori at 9:30, arrival in Hämeenlinna at 17:45. Departure from Hämeenlinna at 11:30, arrival in Tampere at 19:50. During the stop in Visavuori you can see the house-museum and the studio of the sculptor Emil Vikström. In Visavuori there is also a gallery of caricaturist Kari Suomalainen, the grandson of Vikstrom, the Kari Pavilion, where you can get acquainted with Kari's works and temporary exhibitions of other artists.
Viikinsaari is open to tourists only from the end of May to the middle of August. This place is considered the pearl of lake cruises, and is only twenty minute journey by boat from Laucontori. Viikinsaari is a multilateral oasis, where there is a cozy beach, an à la carte restaurant, a dance floor and a terrace.
