The orientation and movement in the city of
Jaffa consists of two parts: the Old and Novaya. The greatest interest for travelers is the Old Jaffa: it is here that the main attractions, galleries, small shops and all the most interesting are concentrated. This western part of the street Yefet (Yefet) is located on a hill with a beautiful view of the sea. The new Jaffa is in the eastern part of Jepheth Street. You can travel by bus, but most likely, public transport will be needed only to get to the suburbs.
Kitchen and restaurants
Fish restaurants are one of the local attractions. Local institutions (humusia), where they serve a snack called hummus in combination with various ingredients and bread cakes, are also considered to be compulsory. Hummus is a kind of puree from turkey peas. Its various types, including the warm version of the "masbah", are in constant demand not only within the borders of Jaffa, but also in the whole territory of Israel. Jars with this wonderful and tasty mixture can be bought as a souvenir in any supermarket
History and culture
The first mention of Jaffa can be found in written sources that existed before our era . So, the city appears in the chronicles of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutmosa III . It is believed that somewhere here Noah built his ark, and wise king Solomon through this port established the supply of Libyan cedar for the construction of the future First Temple, the only place at that time allowed for the prayers of the faithful Jews (famous The wall of Kotel is what came to our time from the Second Temple) . For a long time the main rulers in the city were the Romans, then the Egyptians came to replace them, including the famous Cleopatra, the Arabs and even Richard the Lionheart . Here he himself visited Napoleon .
Undoubtedly, the endless wars, a string of conquerors of different suits have not much left from the historical heritage, and yet, what has remained doubly valuable long and a rich history. Initially, Tel Aviv was a suburb of Jaffa, but, as is often the case in life, the periphery became the center, and the two administrative units joined together in 1949 became one.
Shopping and shopping
The flea market in Jaffa will be interesting not only wanting to buy antiques, traditional Arabian cotton clothes and other goods for little money, but also those who want to get acquainted with the local leisurely life, saturated with bright colors. The market is located on two streets. Here you can also find numerous souvenir shops and shops with things supported.
