The historical center of Riga began to be created only in the late 19th century after the demolition of urban fortifications. It was then that the first features of the embankment began to appear here, which became the border of the old Riga and the city center.
When you walk around the historical center of Riga you can often hear the cherished word "art nouveau". As it is clear from the name, more precisely from the last part of it, it is a "style", and more specifically a modern style that dominates the architecture of the city center. Flight of imagination can be seen firsthand on Albert Street, where the buildings are not alike, decorated with various decorative elements, many of them are architectural monuments.
The building of the Latvian National Opera is also worth visiting. It will certainly impress: the main facade of the Opera is designed in classical forms with 6 ionic columns, the building is decorated with allegorical figures. In the center there are various cathedrals and churches: the Orthodox Cathedral of Peter and Paul, the Riga Cathedral of the Christs, the Old Lutheran Church of St. Gertrude, etc.
The city center can now be proud of its pets who terrorized the city and now are fed and quite happy. Authorities tried to get rid of beavers, but in the end, the victory was won by toothy animals. They are equipped with special feeding trolleys so that citizens can watch the beavers
