Therefore, to calculate the original capacity of the auditorium is very problematic.

During the Roman Empire, the amphitheater was used primarily for gladiatorial fights. And later it turned into a place of public executions. Probably, because of this, the locals did not like him and even after the collapse of the Roman Empire they completely forgot. Surprisingly, it was this fact that allowed the amphitheater to survive.

In the vicinity of the amphitheater, fragments of columns with the carving of the ancient Greek god Dionysus and the muses were found. It is likely that earlier fragments were part of the design of the amphitheater.

Since the 80's. This century, the Amphitheater of Ohrid was actively used as a venue for concerts, ballet, opera and theater productions. On his stage are the world stars, in particular, the famous tenor Jose Carreras. Every year, the summer festival of Ohrid is held in the amphitheater.
