The authorities of Nepal announced a twofold increase in the tax levied on foreign guests.

Starting from March 1, the tourist fee will grow to 1 thousand rupees (about 340 rubles), regardless of the length of the traveler's stay in the country .As before, the fee will be charged at the end of the trip - before departure from any Nepalese airport .As explained by representatives of the local Tourism Council, the state had to go to such a step because of a strong devaluation of the home currency, while the amount of tax remained unchanged for the last nine years .In addition, the proceeds will be used to develop tourism infrastructure and promote Nepal in the global tourism market .

Recall that today Nepal is considered one of the poorest countries in the world (159th in the world in terms of GDP per capita). Foreign tourists - the main source of stable foreign exchange earnings to the local treasury.
