It's no secret that birds are a serious problem for many airports around the world. Birds often encounter aircraft, hammering into engines or breaking against glass. Fortunately, this extremely rarely leads to catastrophes, however, according to statistics, at least one liner per day makes an emergency landing through the fault of birds.
Specialists and airport employees struggle with the birds with all their might, catching by hand or destroying eggs. Recently in the Netherlands came up with a new way to confront the birds: 3D birds. According to the creators, the project should become the most effective of the existing ones.
Inventors were based on the fact that most ordinary birds are afraid of falcons, eagles and other predators. The presence of such birds in the sky repels other birds.
New airport protectors have been printed on 3D printers, and their body is so strong that it can withstand the collision with the earth. The flight of 3D eagles and falcons can be controlled remotely. Artificial predators can reach speeds of up to 80 km / h.
Dutch scientists have already conducted their first experiments. On one of the local garbage dumps, 3D birds flashed about half the gulls with their kind and screams. Experts were satisfied with the experiment, but sent the project for revision.
It is expected that in the near future the updated version of 3D predators will scare away up to 75% of the birds. Then the defenders of airspace will start to deliver to the airports.
