Add a review of the zoo in Amsterdam

In the east of Amsterdam is the oldest Dutch zoo Artis Royal Zoo, founded in 1838. The zoo contains more than 6 thousand species of animals from around the world. Huge aquariums, a planetarium, a botanical garden, a geological museum and many other interesting things can be found on the huge territory of the zoo.

The full name of the zoo is "Natura Artis Magistra", which can be translated from Latin as "Nature is the teacher of art."

In addition to a rich world of flora and fauna, the zoo is famous for its cultural monuments. For example, the architecture of the Great Museum (1855), the Library (1867) and the Aquarium (1882) are noteworthy. There is also a small Zeiss Planetarium in which you can see the amazing evolution of our planet from its birth to our time, and also go on an unforgettable journey through the stellar systems of the Galaxy.

Animal world of the Amsterdam Zoo

So, what is such a thing you can see in the expanses of the zoo "Artis"? Firstly, a hilarious lawn of camels (with alpacas and dwarf donkeys in addition), Kerbert's terrace and a gallery of predators, as well as a funny monkey rock with Japanese macaques. The Kerberta terrace, which appeared in the zoo in 1927, was named after Kunraad Kerberta, the second director of Artis. Today there is a proud lion pride here.

In 1883, the last quagga in the world died in the Amsterdam zoo.

Moving farther into the park, it is worth looking into the reptile pavilion and the land of lemurs, where red varieties live. Further - not the most fragrant place with the romantic name Goat's Rock. Here, logically, Alpine mountain goats settled. Nearby - South American pampas, a place to visit. In it you can see giant anteaters, and lamas, and aguarachays.

Finally, let's briefly go over the rest of the representatives of our smaller brothers: margins, South American coats, Binturongs, lemurs, red-gray wallabies, pandas and nutria, raccoons, wild African dogs, as well as ana, deer, giraffes, elephants and antelopes. Uh, and this is not a complete list yet. In a word, if your child is a fan of the "In the Animal World" program, lay at least a couple of days to explore the rich world of this unique Dutch zoo.
