What is Norway's flag?
Flag of Norway - red cloth with a blue Scandinavian cross on a white lining. From 1748 to 1814, because of the then adopted Danish-Norwegian union, Norwegian ships went under the Danish flag (Dannebrog). But in 1814, when the King of Sweden ascended to the throne of Norway, the locals got the right to use the same flag, adding to him a Norwegian golden lion crowned with a crown and holding an ax.
However, this did not satisfy patriotic Norwegians and the struggle for the flag continued . In 1821 the parliament adopted a new flag design: Dannebrog with a dark blue cross on a white substrate. This combination of red, white and blue at that time was considered a symbol of freedom. The cross is the common symbol of the flags of Denmark and Sweden
