On April 15, a special An-74 board from Longyearbyen, an administrative unit in Norway on the island of Spitsbergen, brought 29 tourists to the drifting ice camp of Barneo. Among the travelers-extreme was the two-time world champion in figure skating Miki Ando with his film crew. The purpose of their trip was to make the most northern performance in the history of figure skating.
To make the skater able to realize her dream, a small ice rink was flooded near the North Pole point, which later had to be expanded so that the world champion showed all her skills. The very performance took place on April 16.
Thus, the Japanese champion became the only figure skater in the world to perform at the North Pole on the ice of the Arctic Ocean.
