In the town of Stiklestad in central Norway, the construction of a Russian Orthodox chapel commemorating the Holy King Olav of Norway began.
The Orthodox church will be built on the site where King Olaf, the heavenly patron of Norway, died in 1030. Construction is scheduled to be completed in August 2014, the millennium of the baptism of King Olaf in the French city of Rouen.
On July 28, Archbishop Mark Yegoryevsky, head of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for Foreign Institutions, consecrated the stone and the site where the new church will be erected.
