For the first time the city of Mikołajki was mentioned in the annals in 1444. However, at that time it was not a city, but a tiny village, the population of which earned its livelihood by fishing, weaving and rafting the forest. There are Mikolajki in the heart of Mazury, the edge of lakes and the most beautiful nature. Located on the banks of two of the Great Mazurian Lakes, Talta and Mikolajsk, the city is their largest port. This leaves a certain imprint on the daily life of the city, and on the recruitment of tourist attractions and goals.
In addition to lakes, nature generously rewarded this region with a diverse flora and fauna, including rare species. The forests of the Piskaya Pushcha are picturesque, rich in mushrooms and berries.

How to get here
You can get to Mikołajache by bus from Olsztyn or Warsaw, which are connected by bus and rail connections to many European cities. The path is not straight, and therefore can take quite a long time. But, experience shows, the most profitable and in terms of time, and in terms of financial way - is buying a bus tour from Kaliningrad. In this case, the road will take several hours, taking into account the border crossing. At the same time, it must be remembered that in the border zone it is impossible to photograph or smoke.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions
Around Mikołakek there are a lot of attractions .Old cities, ancient castles, the history of which is written many dramatic pages .About 20 minutes from Mikolaik, there is a small town Ryn, formed around the castle, which appeared here in 1337 .The city suffered from Tatar raids, and from the plague, and from fires .Since the castle was rebuilt many times, it does not now impress the medieval structure .Another rather mysterious of its attractions is the Dutch mill, nowadays it does not work .The town itself is quiet, cozy, provincial .
If you drive a little further, you can get to the city a little more, Ketshin .Here the castle is slightly older, it looks massive and frightening, it is immediately evident that this, first of all, fortification .During the Second World War, the castle suffered significantly, but was restored in the 60s of last century .The connoisseurs of the history of this war are well aware that not far from Kentshin, in the forests, Hitler's Wolfschane rate was located, from which the operations on the Eastern Front were directed .The historical part of the city in Kętrzyn is surprisingly large, neat and pretty, and new buildings look rather attractive .
