The status of the city of Swidnica, which in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of Poland, was received in 1290. But before that, it already had walls and six gates, some handicraft workshops and, as usual, trade. By 1471 there were 47 trade guilds, more than 300 breweries, there were constantly fairs. And in 1526 the whole of Silesia passed under the rule of the Habsburgs, was devastated by wars and frequent changes of rulers, eventually became part of Prussia and only after World War II again became Poland's.

Now Swidnica is one of the most beautiful Polish cities, it is full of charm and charm, as well as many old cities that managed to preserve their face, specific architecture and those cultural monuments that are so dear to any educated person.

Pages of history

For many representatives of the older generation of Russians, Swidnica is not just a geographical concept, but a part of life, for it was in this city that families of officers from the Northern Group of Forces lived, one of the locations of which was this city. Since then, many years have passed and ambiguous events, many things have been forgotten, much of the secret has become obvious, but the friendships that once formed call in Swidnica the next generation of Russians.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Svidnitsy

The historical part of the city breathes old times, narrow crooked streets beckon to get lost in their labyrinth .As usual, in the center of the city, on the Market Square, stands the Town Hall, which was recently restored and now looks great, and its fanciful tower is visible from afar .Dluga - the central street of the city - leads from the Market Square, the architectural ensemble of which is quite traditional, but nevertheless very attractive, to the Church of Saints Stanislaus and Wenceslas, built in the Gothic style .The interior of the church is very diverse and executed not only in the Gothic style, but also in the baroque style .It is possible to get into the church daily, but it should be remembered that the Poles are very zealous Catholics, therefore the inspection of the internal premises is better until the end of the service .

In the center of the square, as in many European cities, a baroque column was erected in honor of the end of the plague.

It will be interesting to see the Museum of the Silesian Trade, which operates on weekends from 11.00 to 17.00, and on weekdays from 10.00 to 15.00. The exposition acquaints visitors not only with the history of trade development in Silesia, but also shows how the crafts developed.

Nearby (10 km to the north-west) from Swidnica, in Jaworzyn, is the largest museum of locomotives in Poland. Its exposition illustrates the history of the development of railway transport in Poland and allows us to inspect in detail various locomotives.

The Church of the World

The most amazing landmark of Swidnica is the Church of the World by right .The wooden evangelical church in Swidnica and its equivalent in Jawor are the only monuments of this kind .These are wooden crossbar churches built by Silesian Protestants in the mid-17th century .The interior of the church in Swidnica is richly decorated in the Baroque style: marvelous paintings made in the 18th century, generously decorated ceilings, a two-tiered room for worshipers create a festive mood for those present .However, the value of this church is not in this, but in the ideas that it proclaims .

After the end in 1648 of the devastating 30-year war for Silesia, the Austrian princess allowed to build the evangelicals only three churches, provided that they will not look like traditional temples, they will be made of fragile materials and will be located at a distance of a cannon shot from the city walls .So there were the Churches of the World - unique half-timbered structures made of wood, straw and clay, completely inconspicuous from the outside, but richly decorated inside .The Church of Peace in Swidnica is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located outside the historical part of the city, at the old evangelical cemetery .In a warm time in the temple services are available, you can get to it for inspection every day from 9 .00 to 13 .00 and from 15 .00 to 17 .00 .For the winter it is closed, but excursions for groups are possible by appointment .
