Like in any other European capital, Lisbon has a museum of modern art and not one. But, undoubtedly, the museum of the collection of Berardo from them is the most interesting, the most modern, the largest and the most authoritative.
Of particular interest to Russians is that this museum specializes in the most modern art - art of the 20th and 21st centuries. In Russia, unfortunately, so modern painting is almost not represented. A good classic collection can be found, but the collection, for example, pop art - no. This is mainly due to the Soviet Iron Curtain and the ban on unrealistic types of painting.
But the more interesting for us in the museum collection of Berardo - none of the available authors in Russian museums are not represented at least somehow, and many names in Russia are known only to specialists.
Collection
This museum is young, it appeared less than 10 years ago, but the collection gathered already impressive, specializes in European and American contemporary art.
The collection covers almost all innovative types of paintings that appeared in the 20th century, from Surrealism and Cubism of the beginning of the century to innovative forms, which do not yet have an established name, only about 70 directions.
The most famous elements of the collection are two paintings by Pablo Picasso, a painting by Salvador Dali and sketches by Kazimir Malevich. But, besides them, a lot of other artists are represented here, from the famous Andy Warhol to insanely popular in America and Western Europe, but almost unknown in Russia Jackson Pollock, one of the creators of the genre of abstract expressionism, and many other artists.
In addition to permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions are held here on a regular basis. Usually they are imported, often - from the best museums in the world and are always very good. There are exhibitions of eminent artists and exhibitions of innovative youth.
Practical information
The entrance to the museum is free, but for some temporary imported exhibitions (not all), sometimes you need to buy tickets, this can be done in advance on the museum's official website or on the spot, at the ticket office.
