Vilamoura is the main and most developed tourist center of the Algarve, located 29 km from Faro International Airport .Unlike other cities in the region, it was never a poor fishing village, but was immediately planned and built as an elite resort, so the architecture here is stylistically monotonous and harmonious .There is everything for a wonderful holiday - high-class hotels, apartments, numerous tennis courts .The city is surrounded by luxurious private villas, well-kept gardens and golden beaches .The resort also boasts Europe's largest yacht club .

Marina Vilamoura is considered one of the most prestigious vacation spots on the whole coast, there are a lot of bars and restaurants, you can go for a ride on water motorcycles or book a boat tour of the coastal grottoes.

How to get here

As already mentioned above, the nearest airport is in Faro. From there, you can get by bus or taxi for half an hour at a fixed airport price. In addition, you can arrive in a rented car from Lisbon, the road takes several hours.

Beach holiday Vilamoura

In the city there are three major popular beaches: Vilamoura, Marina and Falesia, each of them awarded a "blue flag" for the quality of water, equipped with all necessary - changing cabins, showers, rental of sports equipment and sun loungers, rescue towers. Marina is located next to the legendary bay and yacht club, and here you can enjoy local cuisine without being distracted from beach rest, and there are more opportunities for water sports on this beach.

The beach of Falesia derives its name because of the long ridge of coastal golden rocks that frame it .If you have transport, you can go to Quinta do Lago - the beach bordering the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve east of Vilamoura .The beach itself does not represent anything special, but you can go to it only along a long wooden bridge over the mouth of a swampy river .This bridge offers an amazing view of the territory covered with white salt lakes and you can watch the life of the local fauna, mainly birds that are used to tourists, despite the reserved status of this place .

As already mentioned above, most restaurants, bars and other establishments of this profile are concentrated in the Marina area, although of course there is a couple of cafes on each beach, and almost all hotels have their own restaurants .As for the kitchen, it is worth knowing: it, like everyone in Vilamoura, is very cosmopolitan, therefore almost all restaurants (except thematic ones like Japanese or Italian) will offer you a wide choice of dishes of European cuisine and several national products .But for a truly Portuguese meal should go to the neighboring villages .

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Vilamoura

There is plenty of entertainment in Vilamoura: those who love history can visit the archaeological museum in Cerro da Vila, the atmosphere of which "takes" the tourists to a Roman villa of the first century AD. The ruins of ancient Roman baths, where a beautiful mosaic remained, are located right in the center of the resort.

Sports fans should know that Vilamoura is a real garden city, where there are chic golf courses, six golf clubs, tennis and squash courts, an airfield, a riding center, a shooting range and a dive center. For those who prefer slightly less active types of recreation - bike paths, casinos, art galleries and, finally, a beautiful Marina with many cafes and restaurants.
