Sabantuy is the holiday of the end of agricultural work in the spring and the onset of summer . In Russia it is celebrated by Tatars and Bashkirs, although similar festivals are also found in other nationalities (for example, residents of Mari El or Mordovia) . If you literally translate the name of the holiday from the Bashkir, "Plows holiday" . The first mention of the Bashkir Sabantuy in written sources occurs back in the 18th century . In different ethnic groups Bashkir Sabantuy and celebrated in different ways, even at different times . And today in Bashkiria this tradition survived: in Zabantui are marked on different dates, but this is almost always the first half of June . True, there are exceptions: for example, in some places Sabantuy is united with the Day of the city or republic .

Although the holiday lost its former agricultural importance, at least in large cities, the culture of Bashkiria is still unthinkable today without Sabantuya . This is necessarily a stormy, reckless fun, no formalities, many entertainments, quizzes with prizes, games and entertainment for children . Different events take place at various venues in Ufa in the framework of Sabantuy, including performances of musicians and sports competitions (for example, the national wrestling kuresh) .
