How to get to Kirillov
From Moscow rows from Yaroslavsky station Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Vorkuta to Vologda station (travel 8, 5 hours). In Vologda, go to the bus station (next to the railway station) and take the bus to Kirillov (2 hours on the road, 5 buses a day). From St. Petersburg - trains from the Moscow railway station to Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, Vorkuta or Vologda.
The car itself can be reached by a rather decent P-5 highway, from which Kirillov is only 20 km away. And then either to the north - to Belozersk and Vytegra, or to the south - to Vologda (120 km) and Moscow.
By the very city, of course, it's easiest to walk, however, to explore nearby attractions - the Russian North National Park, Goritsky Monastery or Ferapontovo is most convenient on your own car. Buses do not go often, it's not very convenient to adjust to the schedule.

To Goritsy
You can get to Goritsky Monastery by the route , which goes from the city center strictly to the north, just 1 km from Kirillov there will be a congress to Goritsy and an index (about 4 km on the road). Returning back, 500 m from the exit from Goritsy, you can see the parking lot on the right - it's worth stopping and strolling for half an hour or so in the Russian North National Park.
To Ferapontovo
To the monastery with amazing frescoes Dionisy Kirillov separates only 20 km, direction - to Vologda. It is necessary to move along the central street of the city, leaving the main entrance to the monastery strictly behind one's back. After 10-15 minutes, the road rests on the P-5 highway to Vologda, there it is necessary to turn left and drive another 5 km to the ferapontovo point.
To Belozersk
In the summer (from May to October, about how the ice turns) Kirillov and Belozersk connects the ferry across the Sheksna river, thereby reducing the path to 40 km. A bit of history
Kirillov is on the eastern shore of Lake Siverskoye . First, in the place of the present city, there was a handicraft settlement, which appeared almost simultaneously with the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, founded in 1397. Only on August 24, 1776, by the decree of Catherine II, Kirillov was proclaimed a city. Through the city, the North-Dvinsky Canal (also the Canal of the Duke of Württemberg), opened in 1828, is opened, which allows ships to pass from the Volga through Sheksna to Sukhona and then through the Northern Dvina to Arkhangelsk.
How to find your bearings
The city itself can be conditionally divided into three large parts . The monastery and the city streets located east of it form the center . Climate
The best time to visit the city is difficult to identify. Someone thinks that this is winter. At this time, Kirillov is especially beautiful, the roads near it are in good condition (since all the ruts and pits are covered with ice), the flow of tourists to the monastery falls almost to zero. Others argue that it is better to go in the summer, because the ice north winds in Kirillov are very, very sensitive even in early May, and large open lake areas even in summer do not allow the temperature to rise much.

The monastery in 1398 founded the associate of Cyril Belozersky Ferapont. The main treasure is the patterned cover of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral (1490): 600 sq. M. m frescos, which in 1502 in just 34 days the temple was painted by Dionysius and his sons. For their safety follows the Museum of Frescoes of Dionysius: they are allowed in small groups only from May to September.
Ferapontovo is 20 km from Kirillov, the bus runs infrequently (the timetable can be found at the bus station in Kirillov (81757) 313-33). You can get there by taxi (to Ferapontovo and back - within 500 RUR), the parking is located opposite the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery and near the bus station.
Goritsky Ascension Convent
Monastery was repeatedly used as a women's prison, where the wives were imprisoned other relatives of royalty. The best view is from the nearby Maura mountain.
