A paragraph of history
Atkarsk is surrounded by two rivers - Atkara and Medveditsa. The city was founded in the late 18th century and existed at the expense of bread trade. In the 19th century, the fire destroyed two-thirds of the city, which was previously unattractive and unsettled, that it was called the Straw Town.
Of course, this is already in the distant past. The opening of the Tambov-Saratov railway has dissolved this sleepy little town, and by the beginning of the revolution, workers, merchants, and craftspeople also lived here. Gradually the significance of Atkarsk increased as a center of grain trade. The revolution has opened new horizons to the city, including in industry. Until now, one of the city's main occupations is the production of equipment for the mining industry.

And what is most pleasant, they are maintained in good condition and are not restored by poor methods: siding and plaster. The historical center is rich in such buildings and creates the impression of a cozy, prosperous merchant town, as it used to be. The absence of high buildings helps the perception of architectural monuments in the right atmosphere.
