A little history
Founded in 1709 as a fortress that was part of the Biisk-Kuznetsk Cossack line, Biysk in 1756 played an important role in the process of voluntary entry of the Altaians into Russia. Biysk was given the status of a city in 1782 and soon received its coat of arms.
Biysk is connected by railway to the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1915.
