Borisoglebsk is a historical city of the Voronezh region and Russia, due to its origin to Peter the Great, the city of military pilots and a quiet place that still retains the atmosphere of the county town.

Historical information

Borisoglebsk, like many other localities in the Voronezh region, the successful geographical location of the site, not left unattended by the Emperor Peter the Great. It was by his decree in 1698 that a Novo-Pavlovsk fortress appeared on the plateau near the Raven River, which flows into the Khoper River nearby. She became the ancestor of Borisoglebsk, which received its city status in 1779.

The fortress originally served to protect the already existing settlements in this territory from the raids of Crimean and Nogai Tatars. Then, for several years, it turned into a place for harvesting and storing timber for the cabotage fleet that was being built on the surrounding shipyards.
In 1703 the cathedral church of Saints Boris and Gleb was built in the fortress, according to which the city got its name.

Curious fact: how Boris and Gleb "buried"

In 1930 the residents of Borisoglebsk posed the question: to "bury Boris and Gleb" and rename the city "going all the way along the way of industrialization" . In a local newspaper called "The Voice of the Plowman" (she was "Kolkhoznaya Pravda") a vote took place in which the majority of the activists who took part in it spoke in favor of the name Kolkhozgrad . Another part of the proposed to name B but the name was rejected, considering it "uncharacteristic for the district" . And even the congress of trade unions approved the renaming to Kolkhozgrad in order to get rid of the anachronism . It would seem that the matter was solved: in honor of the future name of the district and its capital in the village of Tantsyrei even the street was renamed Kolhozgradskaya (the name has survived until now!) . But for some reason in the Kremlin Kolkhozgrad was not happy and the name did not approve, so the ancient city of Borisoglebsk has been given to him in 1704 for more than 300 years year name .
