How to get there and where to stay

Yelets is located near the federal highway M4, it passes in the immediate vicinity of the city, as well as the regional motorway P119 Orel - Tambov. Public transport from Moscow to Yelets can be reached by bus from the Paveletsky station or by trains heading south.

• the most original is the Grand Duke Church, which is built with the money of the merchant Zausailov in honor of visiting Yelets with his brother Nicholas II, Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich. Near the temple there is a charity house, which was also opened by a well-known Yelets merchant;

• the most famous building is the Ascension Cathedral, erected by the architect Konstantin Ton. The cathedral is called the third (according to other sources - the fourth) largest Orthodox church in Russia after the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, St. Isaac's Cathedral (and the Annunciation Cathedral in Voronezh). Near the Voznesensky Cathedral there is a small chapel, consecrated on the grave of the people from Elche, who died in 1395 during the invasion of Tamerlane.

Other Yelets attractions are connected with the life and work of IA Bunin, who spent several years of his life here, being a pupil of the local gymnasium, composer TN Khrennikov, artist N. N. Zhukov. In Yelets, in recent years, a tradition has developed to hold various festivals of historical and ethnographic focus. In May, there is the "Russian leaven", a festival dedicated to the national way of life and traditions, including the procurement of products for the winter, home brewing, baking. At the autumn festival "Antonovskie apples" is about the same, with the only exception, that it is dedicated to Ivan Bunin and his work, which became the symbol of the event.
