History of Velikiye Luk
The first settlers of the Velikie Luki region were the Eastern Baltic tribes, th in 1 thousand n. e. Slavic tribes of Krivichi, as evidenced by the archaeological finds of ancient settlements, settlements, burial mounds, hills and burial grounds.

Velikiye Luki was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, and in 2008 received the title of "City of Military Glory."
Today, Velikiye Luki is a city of regional subordination in the Pskov region, where the administrative center of the Velikie Luka municipal district is located
