How and where ancient people lived and what happened to mammoths, you can find out by visiting the Kostenki archaeological museum-reserve, 40 km south of Voronezh. One of the smallest and youngest museums in the Voronezh region contains the most ancient exhibits in the region - the site of an ancient man who lived in the era of the Upper Paleolithic, that is, 38-20 thousand years BC. e.
The collection of a small museum located on a total of 9 hectares includes more than 30 thousand different storage units, including primitive tools of bone and stone, works of Paleolithic art, and skeletons mammoths. The main object of the exposition is the dwelling of people of the Stone Age, built of mammoth bones. Above the remnants of this building, archaeologists have placed a special protective pavilion that "entered" the museum building later.
Excursions
Visit the Kostenki museum-reserve only for six months - from May 1 to October 30. It works daily from 10 to 18 hours, except Monday, the last Tuesday of the month - a sanitary day. You can get on a tour of the museum in order of the first order, the ticket price is 100 rubles, excursion service is paid separately - depending on the size of the group.
How to get there
From Voronezh to Kostenki, you can get on the Kursk route, then turn to Ostrogozhskaya road and go to the signpost to Kostenki. After the turn, go along the asphalt road past the school to the museum building.
