The paragraph of history
The fortress was built in 1697 on the Medveditsa River. In 1707, Peter I personally visited here for the first time. The fortress had a quadrangular shape and was fenced on all sides by oak walls. On the perimeter rose 8 chisel wooden towers. Initially, inside the fortress were the Cathedral of Peter and Paul, stables, choruses, barns and archives. Petrovsk was given the status of a county town in the Saratov Gubernia since 1780.
