Entertainment, excursions and sightseeing Kranja
Surprising and attractive Old part of the city where the Town Hall is preserved - a complex of two buildings of different eras and styles. The first mansion dates back to the middle of the 16th century, and the second - once the home of the highest aristocracy of Kranja - belongs to the age of 17. Today in the Town Hall there is the Goreni Museum with a collection of the Slovenian sculptor Loise Dolinar.
Parish Church of Sts. Cantian of the 14th century is a sample of the synthesis of the Romanesque and Gothic style, the largest temple in the Crane. For the first time in this place the church was built in the 6th century, alas, to this day nothing has left of it. On the square next to the cathedral stands a monument to the famous Slovenian poet Franz Preshern, and in the temple rest its remains.
Remnants of the 15th century city walls, in particular the Upper Crane Gate, as well as the Church of the Holy Rosary, are noteworthy. Separately mention is about the amazing catacombs that the city got during the Second World War. Once they served as a refuge for local residents, today there are two exhibitions located directly under the ground: the tunnel exposition itself and a collection of minerals and fossils.
Kislštejn Castle
The 13th century fortress, erected on the ruins of the 11th century fortification, was designed to protect the Kranj pier and the crossing over the Sava. Now and again passing from hand to hand, his current L-shaped view of the castle acquired under Ferdinand I. In 1913, Kislshtein bought the state, placing there their institutions. And only in 1952, after the restoration, under the direction of the architect Jože Plečnik, the Upper Craiova Museum and later the Organization for the Protection of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of Crani were opened.
