Alanya fortress can be called the central sight of the city, one of the key historical monuments. It is perfectly preserved and is still presented in all its glory. In addition, it favorably differs in size from other similar structures in Turkey.

There were a lot of additional premises inside the fortress. There was a mint, a mosque, a church and a monastery, as well as a winter palace of the Sultan, a military training room, places for commerce and a bath.
Alanya fortress

Alanya fortress was built in the 13th century, it took 12 years to erect . They built it, of course, with the sole purpose of protecting the city from enemies. The total length of the double walls is about 8 km. The fortress had 160 towers, most of which were guard towers. Interestingly, the walls were erected from large stones using a special, very strong mortar. Due to this, the fortress was reliable and could withstand shelling from cannons. In the fortress of Alanya, there are loopholes and openings through which the Turks poured boiling water and hot pitch on their opponents.

There are about 400 underground reservoirs in the fortress.

There were many additional premises inside the building. There was a mint, a mosque, a church and a monastery, as well as a winter palace of the Sultan, a military training room, places for commerce and a bath.

How to get there?

Not to notice the fortress is impossible - it is located in the center of the city, seen from afar . At the foot of the fortress there is a public transport stop, so you can go upstairs by bus. If you want to walk, go on foot. It will take you about 40 minutes.

Not far from the fortress there is another local landmark - the lighthouse. This monument of the Ottoman Empire was made in 1880 in Paris and only then came to Alanya. The lighthouse is in excellent condition - its snow-white walls are proof of this. It is interesting that the lighthouse is not large, but the light from it is visible at a distance of 200 nautical miles.

Huge defensive constructions erected by the sultan Keikubad Ala-ed-Din (on his behalf, the name s village), located on the outskirts of the city of Alanya, facing the sea. The fortress is located on a mountain that is far into the sea, forming a rocky cape. That's why it is clearly visible from almost any residential quarter, an unimaginable number of which cuts off its ancient walls from the mainland.
At the foot of the peninsula on one side flaunts the port, and with individual ancient ... Read full review

This year I finally got to Turkey with my beloved daughter and girlfriend. We stayed in Konakli - this is a small resort village near Alanya, so it's no wonder that most of the time we devoted excursions and trips to Alanya where you can buy a lot of things at nice prices and see the famous Alanya fortress, the date of construction of which dates back to the 13th century. Our guide quite seriously said that the fortress strongly resembles the Chinese wall, so for her sake ... Read the whole review
