Ancient, like life itself, the aqueduct is located in the north-western part of Side. The bus closest to this sight is bus No. 639. In the city itself, from the "prehistoric water pipe" there are only pipes - you can find them in the museum.
The aqueduct was built for the needs of the city and had one interesting feature - the fact that it was delivering water from the Manavgat River in Side almost in a straight line. And one more detail was that the water pipe was laid in a mountainous area - but it was impossible to do it without complicated engineering structures. The date of construction of the aqueduct is the second half of the second century, but already a century later it was necessary to restore the ancient water pipe, which had become worthless.
Lolianos Brionianos and his wife Quirinia Patra, who provided the city with funds for the construction, took a significant part in the construction. 30 kilometers of complex engineering structures - 22 aqueduct bridges, 16 tunnels, which reached a length of 2260 meters, and all this because the water had to be lowered from a height of 36 meters. Perhaps, now it will seem ridiculous, but not for the second century of our era.
Unfortunately, the most colorful aqueducts have gone under water - at the moment these unique structures are still connected with water - they were at the bottom of the reservoir Oymapinar. Most of the ancient pipes can be seen in the Museum of Side. The aqueduct itself supplied the water of the river Melos (formerly Manavgat) to the city, and already in the city water was distributed to all houses - including the famous fountain Nymphaeum.
